Objective: Capability to submit electronic syndromic surveillance data to PH agencies and actual submission in accordance with applicable law and practice.
Current status: The Iowa Department of Public Health is not preparing to receive syndromic surveillance data at this time. It is unlikely that IDPH will begin a project related to syndromic surveillance until sometime during federal fiscal year 2015. When IDPH does begin preparing for syndromic surveillance, the current, but tentative plan is to adopt use of the CDC-sponsored BioSense 2.0 system and the latest PHIN specifications for syndromic surveillance.
If you are an eligible professional (EP) and need attestation documentation related to IDPH readiness for the Meaningful Use Syndromic Surveillance objective, see the letter posted at the following web location: http://www.iowaehealth.org/documents/cms/docs/Resources/Meaningful_Use/IDPH_Meaningful_Use_letter.pdf
