Heart Attacks Indicators
The Iowa EHTP web portal includes the following measures:
Hospitalizations for Myocardial Infarction - This indicator uses data collected by hospitals. It can be used to identify trends and patterns in the occurrence of heart attacks across time and space. The data are organized by different variables to help estimate the number of hospital admissions for heart attacks in different time periods, age groups, and geographic areas, such as states and counties. Hospitalization data for heart attacks omit individuals who do not receive medical care or who are not hospitalized, including those people who die in emergency rooms, in nursing homes, or at home without being admitted to a hospital, and people treated in outpatient settings. Differences in rates by time or area may reflect differences or changes in diagnostic techniques and criteria, in the coding of heart attacks, or in medical care access.
