The goal of the five-year program is to reduce the incidence, mortality and prevalence of colorectal cancer in Iowa. The program was established in 2009 by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Colorectal cancer is the second most common type of cancer and the second leading cause of all cancer deaths in Iowa. In 2012, an estimated 1,640 Iowans will be diagnosed and an estimated 650 will lose their lives from colorectal cancer.
