The Iowa WIC Program is funded October 1st through September 30th. On September 30th of each year, the program is required to send any unused food dollars back. USDA has informed the Iowa WIC program they will be returning that money so food checks may be printed for participants who have not yet received their October food benefits.
At this time, the only checks printed will be for participants who have not yet received checks that have a first date to use in October. It is hoped the government shutdown will end by November and funding will be available at that time to print additional checks.
WIC clinics should be contacting individuals who have visited the clinic since the federal shutdown began to inform participants how to receive their checks.
WIC participants should contact their local agency with questions.
