For Employers

What is Worksite Wellness?

Healthcare costs are rising. More and more, employers are taking a proactive role in helping their employees to become healthier. Offering programs in the workplace that promote good health and well-being can reduce healthcare costs, decrease the number of sick days taken, and make for a more productive workforce. Sound good? Then consider starting a Worksite Wellness Program today.

Why Worksite Wellness?

Your employees spend a good share of their day at work or on work-related tasks. When they are more active, eat better, manage stress, and reduce or eliminate tobacco usage, they are happier and more productive. By starting a wellness program, you create an environment that encourages healthy behaviors and happy employees.

How can I help the employees at my workplace quit smoking?

Quitting tobacco is extremely hard, but the results are well worth it to both employee health and the employer's bottom line. One of the most effective ways to help people quit tobacco is through telephone counseling. Quitline Iowa (1-800-QUIT-NOW) provides free counseling to all Iowans. And all Quitline Iowa services are free!

What's the Bottom Line?

A healthier workforce benefits both employees and employers. There is much evidence that shows that Worksite Wellness Programs not only improve employee health, they also:

  • Reduce healthcare costs
  • Reduce sick time off
  • Reduce workers' compensation
  • Produce a good return on investment - sometimes as high as $6-to-$1

Want to get an idea of what your return on investment would be? WellSteps offers a free ROI calculator that can be used to project the impact of evidence-based programs on health care costs, productivity, and absenteeism. Compare these projections with the cost of doing nothing.
