A top SAMHSA official discussed funding trends for FFY 2014 federal grant applications. The trends apply to all federal agencies. Check out these helpful tips to increase your likelihood of being funded!
- You need to plan for - and demonstrate -- that you can spend your grant funds in a timely fashion; the ability to carryover funds is "becoming more constrained."
- Grantees are going to be asked to focus more on proof - showing that they are running evidence-based programs -- in order to win discretionary funds. "Assessing the evidence" guidelines will be issued by SAMHSA.
- FOA requirements will continue to be pressed that when applicants bring partners to the table, the partnership goes beyond a letter of support. Applicants may be required to show they have a partner at a local or coalition level, or a coalition to show how they are trying to fit into the state's plans. In addition to the usual service providers, coordination with state insurance officials, Medicaid agencies and other non-traditional partners will be encouraged.
