Health in All Policies: Strategies to Promote Innovative Leadership describes a collaborative approach to improving the health of individuals and communities that integrates and articulates health considerations into policymaking across sectors and at all levels.
The toolkit was produced by ASTHO in support of the National Prevention Strategy, a framework that integrates recommendations and actions across multiple settings to focus on both increasing the length of people's lives and ensuring that their lives are healthy and productive. Contents include a description of the National Prevention Strategy and key talking points to explain the Health in All Policies (HiAP) approach to leaders in state and local government.
The toolkit also contains a collection of state stories based on the following characteristics of successful cross-sector collaboration: identifying shared goals, engaging partners early and developing partner relationships, defining a common language, activating the community, and leveraging funding. Strategies for implementing HiAP and perspectives on the value of HiAP are included.
