The Needs Assessment of Disability in Iowa 2014 is the first analysis, by county, of the special needs and risk factors for people with disabilities. The IDPH Community Health Needs Assessment and Health Improvement Plan (CHNA & HIP) website has a link to the Report and Executive Summary.
Because of their significance to each county’s needs assessment and planning process, please make sure your board of health and the community planning group are informed of the publications.
Specific information on disability-related programs and services for Iowa residents is available through Iowa Compass, the state’s disability resource database. Users are able to search by service keyword, agency/program name, or by service category. Iowa Compass also produces an e-newsletter every other month highlighting various topics and features information about services, assistive technology devices and funding. To speak to one of the staff members, feel free to call 1-800-779-2001 (1-877-686-0032 TTY).
For brain injury-specific information and support, the Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa has neuro-resource facilitators available to assist. They can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 1-855-444-6443. Visit online at www.biaia.org
