Research has shown us that in Iowa, children from rural areas are more likely to have a problem with overweight and obesity than those living in the more urban parts of the state. The "Childhood Obesity Prevention Strategies for Rural Communities" toolkit is a new resource for local public health agencies concerned with childhood overweight/obesity.
The toolkit is divided into the following five different sectors serving children:
- Early care and Education,
- Out-of-School Time,
- Other Community Initiatives, and
- Health care.
Dr. Catherine Lillehoj, IDPH staff member, served as one of the reviewers for the Nemours-funded resource.
