  • About the Board

  • The Iowa Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board was established to license those working in the plumbing, hydronic, HVAC and refrigeration disciplines. The board issues trade licenses, specialty licenses and medical gas piping installation certification. Contractor licenses began to be issued on November 1, 2012. Anyone working in these disciplines in the state of Iowa is required to be licensed with the Board.

Board members serve three-year terms except for the terms of the initial members, which are staggered so that three members' terms expire each calendar year. No board member shall serve more than three full terms. The board organizes annually and selects a chairperson and a secretary from its membership.
