The Human Resources Office handles all personnel issues from hiring to retiring. The State of Iowa uses the Merit System so all potential employees must go through the Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS) in order to be qualified for positions available throughout the state before they can be hired by any agency. The DAS telephone number is (515) 281-3087. The Human Resources Assistant in each agency posts vacancies and requests lists naming qualified persons from DAS. New employees are then oriented concerning work rules and rights. The Human Resources Office provides all employees with information concerning health benefits, life insurance, disability insurance, dental insurance, and the Iowa Public Employees Retirement System. This area also helps employees with Deferred Compensation questions and dependent care issues. Timesheets are entered into the computer, and warrants are distributed. Worker's Compensation claims are completed and forwarded to DAS. The IDPH Human Resources Office also acts as a liaison between DAS and the Iowa Department of Revenue.
