Culturally Competent Substance Abuse Treatment
Three substance abuse providers were awarded approximately $120,000 each through a competitive Request for Proposals process to implement Culturally Competent Substance Abuse Treatment pilot projects:
- Center for Alcohol & Drug Services, Scott County
- Jackson Recovery Services, Woodbury County
- Employee and Family Resources, Polk County
The goals of the pilot projects are to:

- provide best practice or tried treatment methods and document program outcomes so Iowa treatment providers may adopt culturally appropriate treatment methods
- identify barriers and work with community wrap-around services to assist clients with barriers to participate in and complete treatment services
- maintain contact and support services with clients for six (6) months
- document and provide program outcomes by working with the Iowa Consortium for Substance Abuse Treatment and Research for coordination, monitoring and evaluation throughout the project
- disseminate information about the pilot project including but not limited to programming, lessons learned, community involvement, and outcomes
- provide continual culturally appropriate training to substance abuse treatment staff to work more effectively with the target population
