Substance Abuse Prevention

Youth Development Grant

This grant provides evidence-based substance abuse prevention programming for youth (ages 5-18) that includes out-of-school time activities and opportunities for character development, youth development, leadership and community service.

The youth development approach is a way of working with young people that calls for providing youth the developmental experiences shown to promote a healthy transition toward adulthood


  • To provide evidence-based youth development programming effective in reducing substance abuse in children.
  • To provide specific out-of-school youth development and service opportunities in the community.

Current funding period:

  • FY 2012-2015 with annual contracts funding 8 agencies.
