Interested in an internship at IDPH?

The Iowa Department of Public Health is committed to providing quality student internships. However, we do receive many requests and have a limited number of internships we can place. Most internships are unpaid. For an application form and additional information please email

Current Opportunities

The following list includes all current internship opportunities at IDPH:

  • Policy Intern: Will assist the Department Director and the Policy Advisor on identification of policy issues the department may be in the position to advance at the state and/or local levels of government. The position would assist with research, identification and convening of internal/external stakeholders and potential partners, and development of talking points and other communications as necessary. Some data analysis may be conducted by the intern to assist in providing more background information on the policy opportunities identified.
  • Applicants should possess strong organization, research, written communication skills along with the ability to work independently. Strong critical thinking skills are essential. Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word is required.
  • This will be a paid position. All interested candidates need to complete section 1 of the application form and send to along with a resume and cover letter by May 12, 2015.
