Healthcare-associated Infection (HAI) Prevention Steering Committee

In September 2009 the IDPH received a $880,622 grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to address the issue of HAI Prevention.

In late October, the HAI Prevention Steering Committee was established to develop a state-wide plan to perform surveillance on HAIs and to determine best practices to reduce and prevent HAIs in Iowa.

HAI Prevention Steering Committee Members  

At the first meeting, the HAI Prevention Steering Committee identified two infections to focus on during the next two years in Iowa:

• Clostridium difficile infections (CDI) related to hospitalization.
• catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI)
