Mission Statement: Working as partners in fostering an integrated, dynamic, yet sustainable rural healthcare system that provides the highest quality of care
The FLEX program utilizes FLEX funding to conduct educational opportunities throughout the year. Each year in April or May the FLEX program holds an annual conference with 150 to 175 rural hospital attendees. We cover a variety of topics over a two-day conference. The annual conference is large enough that we can bring in national speakers with assistance of conference sponsors.
In addition, the FLEX program holds quarterly Critical Access Hospital Peer User Group meetings (attendance 60 to 90). This provides us the opportunity to discuss emerging issues and future FLEX program direction. This group created two workgroups to focus on specific topical areas: quality improvement and health information technology. If you are interested in joining either group please contact FLEX staff.
The quality improvement workgroup was instrumental in developing a web-based quality benchmarking program. The hospitals submit data on a quarterly basis and are provided trend analysis data reflecting the quality of care they provide at their facility and in comparison to a statewide average.
The health information technology workgroup was created to facilitate sharing of health information technology initiatives within critical access hospitals throughout Iowa. The workgroup established the following mission statement.
To share information and collaborate on appropriate health information technology to improve healthcare quality and patient safety in rural communities.
