Who We Are

The Iowa Board of Mortuary Science evaluates the qualifications of applicants for Funeral Director , funeral home establishment and cremation establishment licensure and grants licenses to those who qualify.

The Board establishes rules and regulations to ensure the integrity and competence of licensed Funeral Directors, funeral home establishments and cremation establishments and investigates complaints for unprofessional conduct.

The Board is the link between the consumer and the licensed Funeral Director, licensed funeral home establishment and licensed cremation establishment, as such, promotes the public health, welfare and safety.

Licensees are responsible for meeting all licensure requirements and should review the rules carefully and frequently. Licensees must notify the board of a change of name or current mailing address within 30 days after the change occurs. Failure to notify the board of changes may result in your license being placed on inactive status.
